Home Depot, the nations’s second largest retailer, will now accept Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs (CFLs) at all 1,973 of its stores in the United States, creating the nations most widespread recycling program for bulbs. CFLs contain small amounts of mercury, and if broken, release vapors that can harm people and pollute the environment. Until now CFLs were only disposable at a hazardous waste site or occasional designated recycle events.
