Residents play an important role in keeping our waterways clean and pollution free. Even everyday activities such as driving, yard work, and washing your car can have a positive impact on our water quality.

Stormwater and all the pollutants that flow from our homes, parking lots, and streets go into the storm drain, and are discharged directly into our creeks and other water bodies without being treated.

Water and pollutants that flow into the sanitary sewer system, which are separate from storm drains, such as water from our bathtubs and toilets, are sent to a wastewater treatment facility before the water is discharged to the Bay, Delta, or ocean.
